Host a Community Building Workshop with ACE Communities

The Alberta Recreation and Parks Association (ARPA) is seeking rural communities across Alberta who are interested in hosting a regional ACE Communities workshop entitled: “Community Building for an Active, Creative and Engaged Alberta.”

As the result of generous support by Rural Alberta’s Development Fund (RADF), EnCana, and Canwest, the workshop will be offered at no charge to participants with the option of purchasing a “Toolkit for Community Leaders” for $65. Participants will be asked to register in advance with the host community and to indicate whether or not they wish to purchase a Toolkit.

The one day workshop is designed to assist participants to:

  1. Learn more about what it means to be an ACE community
  2. Gain an understanding of community leadership and community building
  3. Access a framework for applying a community development approach
  4. Connect like-minded individuals and communities who are interested in enhancing quality of life
  5. Learn more about resources that are available to your community through ARPA and ACE Communities
  6. Generate excitement and inspire leaders to take action.Workshop dates are flexible but it is anticipated they will be held between November 2009 and March 2010.

Currently, ARPA and ACE Communities are seeking 5-6 communities from across the province of Alberta. While you are preparing for this possible hosting opportunity, working regionally with other partners is encouraged as the tour is committed to providing access to all regions of the province. Rural communities of all sizes are considered including cities, villages, hamlets, or counties. Unfortunately, Calgary and Edmonton are not eligible for partnering.

The application deadline is Friday, October 16th at noon. Notification of acceptance will be provided by Friday, October 23rd.
